Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) have provided anesthesia in the U.S. for over 150 years. CRNAs are advanced practice registered nurses who have completed an accredited postgraduate nurse anesthesia program and passed a national certifying exam. By 2025, all programs will award graduates a doctoral degree for entry into practice.
Qualified to administer all types of anesthesia independently, including general, spinal, epidural, regional blocks and intravenous sedation, CRNAs provide over 33 million anesthetics annually, and are the sole providers in over 66% of rural hospitals.
