Ohio’s Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are trusted providers of safe, high-quality anesthesia care. But their impact doesn’t stop at the operating room door. Across the state, members of the Ohio State Association of Nurse Anesthetists (OSANA) are making a difference in meaningful ways by volunteering their time, skills, and compassion to uplift families and strengthen communities.
Impactful Volunteer Moments in 2025
Ronald McDonald House Meal Program – Columbus, Ohio
Earlier this year, OSANA members took part in the Ronald McDonald House Meal Program in Columbus. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio provides housing and meals to families with children receiving medical care nearby. By preparing home-cooked meals, CRNAs offered more than food—they created a friendly, supportive environment for families going through some of their most challenging moments.
Habitat for Humanity – Greater Cincinnati
During a special OSANA Build Day, members volunteered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati, a nonprofit dedicated to building affordable housing for families in need. CRNAs worked side by side with future homeowners and other community members to help construct safe, stable homes, reinforcing the importance of housing security and neighborhood development.

Cleveland Marathon
This spring, OSANA members also supported the 48th year of the Cleveland Marathon, one of the oldest marathons in the United States and a major community event in Northeast Ohio. The marathon raises funds for numerous local and national charities while promoting health and fitness. CRNAs contributed their time and expertise at medical tents, water stations, and along the race route, ensuring that runners were safe, hydrated, and encouraged every step of the way.

Flying Pig Marathon – Cincinnati, Ohio
OSANA members also volunteered at the Flying Pig Marathon, a premier running event in Cincinnati that supports more than 300 local charities. CRNAs helped manage hydration stations, provided first aid assistance, and cheered on participants throughout the race. Their presence not only ensured safety but demonstrated the commitment CRNAs have to health and wellness beyond the clinical setting.
Upcoming Opportunity: Nationwide Children’s Columbus Marathon
Looking ahead, OSANA members will again step up to volunteer at the Nationwide Children’s Columbus Marathon. This event supports Nationwide Children's Hospital and raises critical funds for pediatric research and care. OSANA volunteers will be part of a team that ensures the marathon is a safe and successful experience for all involved.
The Value of Volunteering Together
Volunteering as a group fosters connections and strengthens relationships among CRNAs outside of the workplace. These experiences allow members to collaborate in meaningful ways, share stories, and support one another while making a direct impact on the lives of others. Whether building homes or supporting endurance athletes, the bonds formed during these events carry over into professional practice and deepen the sense of community among nurse anesthetists.
A Salute to the OSANA Board
In addition to these hands-on events, the OSANA Board of Directors continues to serve the profession through volunteer leadership. Their ongoing commitment supports the mission of OSANA to advance nurse anesthesiology through education, advocacy, knowledge, and member empowerment. The Board exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose and dedication.
The Ohio State Association of Nurse Anesthetists (OSANA) is a dynamic organization that champions the CRNA profession in Ohio through strategic initiatives focused on member support, professional growth, and public advocacy.
