OSANA Honors Work of CRNAs

Ohio State Association of Nurse Anesthetists (OSANA) honored      Kellie Deeter, MSN, CRNA and Megan Fillman, MSN, CRNA as the 2017 recipients of the CRNA of the Year award.  This was the initial honoring of such an award by the association.  Also at this event, OSANA past president, Lynn Reede, DNP, MBA, CRNA, FNAP was recognized as the first ever OSANA Living Legend.

Kellie Deeter is a certified registered nurse anesthetist at Mercy Hospital of Willard and co-owner of Firelands Anesthesia.  Deeter has a passion for advocacy.  Through social media, Kellie has gathered CRNA colleagues to educate and advocate on behalf of the organization, specifically regarding pending legislation in the Ohio House of Representatives.

Megan Fillman works in a critical access hospital in northwest Ohio.  When the Ohio Department of Health drafted rule changes for level 1 and 2 maternity units that would significantly change how she practiced, Megan took it upon herself to confront the issue.  Her efforts contributed to a positive outcome for CRNAs.

Lynn Reede is the Senior Director of the Professional Practice department at the AANA.  Dr. Reedeā€™s contributions to OSANA and the profession has spanned decades, as, prior to moving to the national office, she served in a variety of roles in Ohio including chairing the Government Relations and Public Relations Committees, and serving as the association President.  Reede is likely most well-known for her ability to mentor students and young CRNAs into confident leaders.

Each of the award recipients received a crystal prism award and were acknowledged at the beginning of the evening event at the OSANA Spring Conference, April 20-23, 2017.

OSANA will continue offering these awards to future candidates to recognize the contributions CRNAs make to the association and to the practice.  Award applications will be posted to later this year.
